I enjoy creating intimate theatrical, often puppet-focused experiences that engage the audience in unique ways, whether that be in the viewing, the setting or the personal nature of the story. I am interested in Community-Engaged Theater and love to collaborate to create experiences that give the audience an opportunity to tell its own story or be a part of the storytelling process in unique ways. Public art and installation work excite me.
I was a resident puppeteer at the Center for Puppetry Arts (Xperimental Puppetry Theater, Sam the Lovesick Snowman, The Ugly Duckling, The Shoemaker and the Elves, Charlotte’s Web, Rainforest Adventures), performed with Synchronicity Theatre (Bunnicula), Out of Hand Theater (The Show!, Defenestration: The Musical) and Haverty Marionettes (As I Lay Dying), all in Atlanta. Since my Fall, 2012 move to New York, I’ve performed in several puppet slams, including the 2013 National Puppet Slam and many full and workshop productions, including The Nativity, created by Jane Henson, that aired on national CBS stations on Christmas Eve, 2013. I directed the Little Shop of Horrors Sing Along at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of the 2013 Puppets on Film Festival. I’ve worked as a puppeteer in short films and music videos (see the “Film work” link to the right).
I’m a Company Member with Out of Hand Theater, where I was able to expand my creative mind and think outside the puppet box while working in a physical theater style that informs my puppet performance. Out of Hand Theater creates interactive experiences that embrace new audiences, both inside theaters and in public spaces.
After completing all four levels of Improvisation class at Dad’s Garage Theater Company, I participated as an improv performer with a few groups, including Collective 51, an all-female improv collective that I founded in 2012 that’s still chuggin’ along. I’m currently taking classes at The Peoples Improv Theater in Manhattan.
Auto Show – a series of short puppet pieces which took place in individual audience members’ cars, developed for Xperimental Puppetry Theater 2008 at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
Hotel Tableau – a puppet installation performance that I conceived, directed and produced for XPT 2010, selected to perform at FLUX 2011 in Atlanta and at the Puppeteers of America National Festival, 2011.
The Gathering is a new full-length show that I am developing which is an outdoor, immersive, community-engaging theatrical experience with an audience-driven resolution.
SPOKEn STORIES was commissioned for Art on the Atlanta BeltLine.
Bound To Travel is an intimate, immersive literary experience commissioned by 7 Stages.
Depict-O-Mat is my most recent large project. It is an installation puppet and storytelling “machine” that was selected to appear at the 2015 Puppeteers of America National Festival.
My newest short film project is in development. I look forward to sharing it upon completion!
